Classes
BALLET
Ballet is a technical and graceful performance style of dance. Dancers not only understand the technique behind the style but also learn about the body itself and how to achieve the effortless look of ballet. At Étoile, we offer ballet classes to all ages that follow the IDTA syllabus which they can then take these optional exams. We also offer an open ballet class on a Tuesday, which delves deeper into the body and how to activate certain muscle groups to enhance their ballet technique.
JAZZ
Jazz is a style of dance that is used widely in the industry, especially in Musical Theatre. Dancers learn all about the practitioner Matt Mattox, whilst also training explosive movement so they can develop their dynamics as dancers. Jazz classes are available from 6 years old up to our adult dancers. Flexibility, conditioning, and stamina are incorporated into every lesson to create a well rounded athletic dancer. Jazz is one of our most popular styles.
THEATRE CRAFT
Theatre Craft combines theatrical performance styles such as musical theatre, cabaret, commercial dance, and pantomime, with technical training in kicks, turns, leaps, rhythm, and the use of props and accessories. We offer Theatre Craft classes from 6 years old that follows the IDTA syllabus, which they can then take these optional exams. Performance skills are nurtured and encouraged whilst gaining knowledge of the dance and music genre.
ACROBATIC DANCE
Acrobatic dance is a fusion of gymnastics and acro tricks. The dancers learn individual movements which are then combined into a routine that allows them to flow. Dancers can take IDTA exams through their syllabus from age 5 up to our eldest students and it is a firm favourite for our competition team solos. Exams are optional for all students.
COMMERCIAL
Commercial dance combines a range of styles such as Locking, Voguing & Jazz to create choreography to modern and current music. Every piece of choreography reflects the different aspects of the commercial dance industry. Choreography combinations are taught over two weeks so the students can not only work on pick up speed but also refine technique and performance skills. All commercial dance classes are available for 14 year olds up to our eldest students to make sure the choreography is age appropriate and safe for the dancers.
COMPETITION TEAM
At Étoile, dancers are able to be apart of the competition team. These classes are open to the entire school as long as they attend one of the ballet classes throughout the week. Étoile dancers compete at local All England Dance qualifiers and have entered into the Dance World Cup. Recently, students have qualified and competed in the AED Regional and National Finals in Warwick & Eastbourne.
